Snow fossils

Flickr: Advent

When it snows the world dissolves.

The landscape changes, becomes foreign, sedated. I drive the sleepy streets as if in a dream. Everywhere it is silent. The city empty and alone. Even homes look barren in their snow-covered cocoons. I feel ghostlike, unreal. And yet somehow, despite myself, I find warmth. The icy chill turns me inward, to face my bitter self. Driven toward the fireside, to nestle under covers.

My toes are still cold.
